The distance from Sharm El Sheikh to Tel Aviv by air is around 400 km. The flight takes 45 minutes. From Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is another hour by bus. The tour departs on Tuesdays and Fridays, runs over two days with an overnight stay in a hotel in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv.
The Old City is divided into four quarters: Jewish, Christian, Muslim, and Armenian. Every step is history. The Western Wall is the prayer site for Jews from around the world, the only surviving element of the Second Temple. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the most important shrine in Christianity - the place where Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead. The Dome of the Rock with its golden dome is one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, standing on the Temple Mount since 691 AD. The Via Dolorosa winds through 14 stations along the narrow lanes of the Old City.
On day two the tour travels to Bethlehem - a town 10 km from Jerusalem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ. The Church of the Nativity, built in the 4th century, is one of the oldest active churches in the world. The Grotto of the Nativity beneath the altar marks the traditional site of the birth. The Mount of Olives offers the best panoramic view of Jerusalem - this is where the famous city skyline with the Dome of the Rock is photographed.
Citizens of most EU countries do not need a visa for Israel. Questions may be asked at the border - answer calmly and honestly. Clothing should be modest for visits to religious sites: shoulders and knees covered. The Israeli shekel is the local currency, but dollars and euros are accepted everywhere.
